Welcome to Jump Start Appalachian!

If you are a future transfer student, a college advisor or a faculty member then Jump Start is here to help you get all the answers.

Jump Start Appalachian is a transfer student transition and support program helping students find the answers and resources they need to successfully transfer to Appalachian State University's main campus.  We help students before, during and after their transfer to Appalachian.  Jump Start’s mission is to get you the information you need for a smooth and successful transfer to Appalachian.  Whether it’s visiting with us while we are on your campus, texting with a Transfer Student Mentor or meeting with an academic department we want to help!

On a regular basis, we visit our leading community college partners including Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, Wilkes Community College, Central Piedmont Community College and Catawba Valley Community College.

To ensure a successful transfer to Appalachian, we schedule a number of events and activities to help you with the transition. The aim is to familiarize you with the campus and to provide you with opportunities to meet Appalachian students, faculty and staff.

Transfer Student Mentors

One of the success stories of helping transfer students is the students themselves.  The Transfer Student Mentors (TSMs) are a group of transfer students who have successfully transferred to Appalachian.  They assist incoming transfer students by providing accurate information and helping students get connected with the Appalachian campus.

The Jump Start TSMs remain available to students once they transfer to campus.  They can answer questions, help you navigate your first semester on a new campus, assist you with ways to get involved or just meet for coffee and conversation.  Check out our Transfer Student Mentor page and feel free to contact them.

The TSMs are here to help you be successful at Appalachian.  You may connect with them through email, Google chat or over a cup of coffee on campus.

MAP-Works: Empowering Appalachian students to take control of their academic future

MAP-Works is an online survey that helps students understand more about their skills and abilities as they begin their studies at Appalachian. MAP-Works also helps faculty and staff at Appalachian better understand the needs of the students, and identify the services students need to be successful.
