Jump Start Appalachian Events and Activities

Visit Appalachian

Jump Start Appalachian offers transfer students the chance to visit Appalachian before orientation. The goal is to let you become familiar with the campus. It will also be an opportunity for you to meet the Transfer Student Mentors (TSMs). If you already know your major, we will take you to the department and introduce you to some of your teachers. Get a group of friends together and come for a visit. We'd love to meet you.

Monthly Advising

The Jump Start Appalachian Coordinator will visit the campuses of Caldwell, Central Piedmont, Wilkes, and Catawba Valley Community College each month. This is your chance to find out more about all things Appalachian, with a particular focus on what the transition involves. Don't forget, you can also email the TSMs with questions using our contact page, or connect with them on our Facebook page.

Jump Start Facebook group

Have you friended “Jump Start Appalachian” on Facebook?  Once you do so, we will invite you to join our private Facebook group. This is the place to interact directly with the transfer student mentors and other transfer students coming to Appalachian or already here. It's also the best place to post any questions you may have - we will find an answer for you. We also post lots of information about what's happening at Appalachian, and reminders about things you need to do before you get here. So, friend us today!

Transfer Pre-Orientation Program

The Transfer Pre-Orientation Program is a day of activities designed to help newly admitted Appalachian transfer students find the answers to all of their questions. A typical day involves sessions on financial aid, transfer of credit, advising, and involvement in campus life. We also have a Q&A session with the transfer student mentors, and a tour of the campus.

Participation in this program is completely free! As an incentive to attend this day-long workshop, the Office of Admissions is willing to waive your enrollment "advanced payment" or deposit when you complete your acceptance agreement.

The aim of the day is to help you prepare for Orientation so that everything goes smoothly on that day. Students attending T-POP will still be required to attend an on-campus Orientation session.

The next Transfer Pre-Orientation Program will be held November 28 and December 2 for students admitted for Spring 2017. Find out more here: Transfer Pre-Orientation Program

Transfer Track

Transfer Track sessions are campus tours designed specifically for transfer students. They are held several times a month through fall and spring and select times during the summer. The sessions include workshops with representatives from Admissions, the Office of Transfer Services, and Academic Advising. In addition, all visits will include a transfer student tour to allow prospective transfer students to “get a taste of life of a transfer student” at Appalachian. Tours will be led by our Transfer Student Mentors as well as Student Ambassadors. Find out more and regsiter here: Transfer Track

Coming Up

Jump Start will again be visiting our partner community colleges throughout the fall semester.  Please come by our table and say hello!  You do not need to register for Jump Start visits, but you can let us know that you plan to visit us HERE
